Artists can now sign up to be a part of MICF 2024.
2023 was a banger year for the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. With the highest ticket sales ever and a record-breaking run at the box office, the past festival made it clear that Melbourne is truly a global comedy hotspot.
MICF 2023 hosted more than 735,000 guests, cleared $22.2 million at the box office and threw a whopping 639 shows. If that’s not enough to get you stoked for the upcoming festival, I don’t know what is. Comedians, act fast – MICF has just announced that artist registration is open for the 2024 event, set to run from March 27 to April 21.

“Proving comedy brings much more than laughs, this year’s Melbourne International Comedy Festival filled the city with crowds, broke box office records, created hundreds of local jobs and generated $31.3 million for our economy,” says Minister for Creative Industries, The Hon. Colin Brooks MP.
Bringing in a ton of international comedians including Daniel Sloss, Dylan Moran, Jason Leong, Maisie Adams and Tim Key as well as Aussie icons such as Cal Wilson, Claire Hooper, Georgie Carroll and Lano & Woodley, it’s no surprise that the 2023 event drew massive crowds.

As well as creating many jobs in the city, the City of Melbourne reports that the weekend nights of the festival were consistently the highest spend for both retail and hospitality in our city, with guests coming in for interstate and overseas.
“The Comedy Festival continues to prove itself one of Melbourne’s most dynamic cultural assets,” said MICF CEO and Festival Director Susan Provan. “Huge audiences come out to support our artists and visitors are prepared to travel from all over Australia and the world to soak up an enormous range of the best in contemporary comedy in our venues. They fill our bars and restaurants while they’re here for one of the city’s busiest months of the year.”
The artwork for the 2024 Festival has been created by Brolga. An Australian illustrator, Brolga’s pop-styled aesthetic can be found in street art and murals from the laneways of Fitzroy to the streets of New York.
