Hard Rock Café To Return To Melbourne

The new owner Jeffrey Beaumont, a director of private equity group Tandem Capital, said that plans were to extend it to Perth and Darwin. It is not known when the Melbourne HRC will operate again.

The Hard Rock Café opened on Bourke Street in the city in October 1995 and closed in October 2007.

Beaumont’s company was one of three bidders for the HRC Australian franchise after its previous owner went into liquidation in June with debts of $4 million. Former owners Lionel Huntly and David Rich operated the Hard Rock Cafes in Sydney’s Darling Harbour and Surfers Paradise since 2007. Rich went bankrupt late last year and the company brought in an administrator four months ago. According to a report in the Sydney Morning Herald on the weekend, 100 employees are owed a total of $1 million, mostly in unpaid superannuation (although Beaumont has said he will pick up most of the debt).

About 100 creditors have been advised it is ”unlikely” they will recoup their losses. These include $453k to the Tax Office and $1 million to parent company Hard Rock Cafe International.
