It's not just the pedigree of its founders that makes Melbourne’s latest pop-up restaurant so special.

But it certainly doesn't hurt either. In another life, front of house manager Samuel Maher ran the floors at Mama Baba, St Katherine’s and The Press Club. He made the acquaintance of his collaborator Johan van der Walle a few years back, while the latter was head...

Anthony Allayialis, the co-owner and man behind the concept of Eureka Rebellion Trading, first ignited his love affair for American food and condiments when he moved to North America in the early 2000s. He always had the idea of creating an all-in-one store with everything he loved and upon returning to Oz in 2011, he started getting the wheels in motion for ERT, adding his overseas...

What do you think about Melbourne's restaurant scene?

Melbourne's restaurant scene seems to be ever-evolving. Coming from Sydney it always amazes me at the diverse range of cultures and the influences that they have on the restaurant scene. I love venturing out to the city and trying people's new spin on [classic] dishes.

Blue Corn is a great little Mexican cantina and bar in St Kilda. The place is all the more special for the location, nestled amongst expensive dives near the corner of Barkly and Acland, in the ominous shadow of the Dolton bar.

I remember eating here when it opened years ago and being intimidated by the prices. Paying $20 for a burrito seemed ridiculous, but that was before a...

The suburb of Balaclava in Melbourne's south-east may not be the best known or most desirable culinary destination in such a great gastronomic city as mighty Melbourne, but this place is an absolute treat, and well worth discovering for diners south of the Yarra. Venturing there from Northcote was a reasonable hike, but Punt Road was uncharacteristically reasonable on this Sunday evening, and...

Grumpy's Green is tucked away in that grey area of Smith Street where gentrification has taken hold exactly the right amount - you can take your pick of delightful cosy little bars and still get shived on your way to the ATM.

The decor is tasteful, fun and a little bit quirky. The menus are printed inside vintage children's story books. The lighting is nice, the staff are...

Palookaville, conveniently placed towards the 'Paris end' of Brunswick St, is a restaurant and bar where value-driven food is the calling card. Heading in early on a Friday evening, the dim, open-plan dining room, complete with pool table, has got a few bodies in seats and some quiet music to the match the relaxed atmosphere, giving you a nice space to chat with your friends without a raised...
