Someone walls past as you guys are playing, they then go get a beer and tell their friend about you… what do they say?

They wouldn’t be telling their friends about me down at the pub because they would still be at the gig. But once that’s over and they’ve caught up with their friends, they would just say: ‘Can’t describe it, you should have been there. Just check her out!’”

How long have you been gigging and writing?

Gigging for about six years, but I’ve gone solo only in the last two years. Writing is a relatively new experience, three years.”

What has been your favourite gig you’ve played to date?

That would have to be last night at Good God Small Club for my showcase on the April 6. The band was on fire. People started dancing. All in all, a great night.”

Which band would you most like to have a battle/showdown with?

I don’t think there’s any band I’d like to ‘battle’. I’m a lover, not a fighter, so I think I’d rather collaborate with bands. Massive Attack perhaps, or Mark Ronson? I’d love to co write with Sia.”

What inspires or has influenced your music the most?

The kind of music that inspires me is not always the kind that I listen to. I like to listen to Ella Fitzgerald, I love the sound of Bon Iver, I enjoy a bit of classical music. But I think that the music that inspires my own is the work done by artists such as Radiohead, mixed with a bit of Massive Attack, and the vocals of Adele or Amy Winehouse.”

What do you think a band has to do these days to succeed?

Write amazing songs. Then win the fans over one fan at a time.”

Do you have a releases? What? Where can I get it?

Yes, I have a single called Rubberoom out. You can get it on iTunes just search ‘Fantine Rubberoom’.”

Why should everyone come and see your band?

Because I’ve been lucky to collaborate with amazing people to write some amazing songs. And when I play them, the band is tight and we kick it live.”
