When arriving that this show, it would have been an easy mistake to make thinking that one had perhaps walked into a Lewis Carroll novel. Characters of all sorts swarmed in early for The Crooked Fiddle Band's highly anticipated launch of their Album 'Overgrown Tales' - recorded in Chicago with the legendary engineer Steve Albini (Nirvana, The Pixies, Gogol Bordello, Jonanna Newsom).

One of the great things in life is that when one door closes, another always opens. Zombie Ghost Train fans listen up. Despite the heartache when the Aussie psychobilly trio parted ways, it paved the way for something bigger, and possibly better. Enter Captain Reckless and the Lost Souls. The new outfit retains Zombie originals, Reckless [guitar, vocals], and Azzie T [drums], and gains the...

He may be “more into boats these days” rather than custom cars and quiffs, but Geoff Corbett of Brissie rock legends Six Ft Hick is still very keen about this year’s Chopped Rod & Custom Festival nevertheless. So much so, in fact, that he reckons the band’s actually been rehearsing for the event – no joke.

“Yeah, we normally never rehearse because after 15 years of doing...

Flight Facilities are certainly taking off!

Fresh off an extensive tour around Europe, the Sydney-based duo just can’t get enough and have just announced a national tour. You probably remember their debut single from 2010, Crave You – a summery, jazz-infused house number that stuck around on the Triple J playlist for quite some time. Since then, they’ve been busy working on...

Chinatown Angels form a part of the pretty vibrant glammy hard rock scene that is happening in Melbourne at the moment. Bands such as Fastrack, Reckless, Dead Star Renegade and Heaven The Axe are drawing very solid crowds across the city at the moment, and hope for a return to the glory days of 1987 when cock-rock ruled the planet.  Despite having more than a slight touch of the flu, the band’...

This is the first visit of King Tutankhamun’s treasures to Australia, and Melbourne is the exhibition’s one...

In another era - especially one dating back about 40 years - the Sand Pebbles would have embarked on a career path toward legendary, almost mythical status. Inspired by the idealism of the time, and fuelled by the inebriates of the moment, they would have released two and a half albums of mesmerising psychedelia before imploding under the weight of egos, drugs and a music industry unable to...

This month, Melbourne’s Sand Pebbles will release their fifth or sixth album (depending on how you look at it), Dark Magic. Lead single Occupied Europe features a familiar interlacing web of guitars and gothic post-rock tones. The vocal work by Tor Larsen is super-femme and sounds, at certain points in the chorus, like The Bangles. The overall effect is evocative and atmospheric, but...
