Newcastle’s music, and broader artistic, community was dealt a huge blow this May when Morrow Park Bowling Club was destroyed in a blaze. The venue acted as a cultural hub for many Newcastle musicians, as well as providing a northern conduit for visiting Melbourne acts. Following on from a Newcastle-based benefit, the Corner will play host to Mozfest: Blaze Of Glory II – a star-studded mini-...

Pardon the clichéd metaphor, but listening to Daughter live is like plunging into a cold shower on a disgustingly hot day. Refreshing, yet simultaneously confronting. It's this seemingly contradictory duality that makes it so difficult to pigeonhole them. Vocalist, guitarist and founder of the London outfit, Elena Tonra has one of the most beautiful voices I've ever heard. Incredibly soothing...

The past few months have been a flurry of activity for Bastille. The good-natured British indie band have seen their debut album, Bad Blood, released to great acclaim, and a million and one acoustic covers of their song Flaws hit YouTube. Equal parts cabaret, pantomime, comedy, and free-for-all musical mayhem, legendary indie songstress Clare Bowditch’s annual Winter Secrets tours have become something of an Australian institution. Now, with...

Instrumental act Forest of Eyes bellowed, sans amplification, that we were witnessing their first ever show. Their rambunctious, cymbal-crashing prog-rock tore through the venue, comparisons to Cream and Led Zeppelin inevitably sprouting. It wouldn't be a stretch to...

About a minute into the set, it’s clear that Kingswood need a bigger stage. If not to better reflect their music, then definitely so we can fully appreciate the mass of guitarist Alex Laska’s long, curly mane. It’s obvious that they’ve perfected the art of live performance since playing nearly a hundred gigs last year. Impressive harmonies, witty onstage banter, face melting guitar solos. ...

In a decision that was by no means made lightly, Melbourne performer Mikelangelo has decided to disband his outfit Mikelangleo & The Tin Star after a three and a half year musical collaboration which attracted a very solid fanbase in such a short timeframe.

Rest assured though Mikelangelo himself will continue on with his many other musical pursuits. That means his last...
