Time is fast approaching for the fourth ever Cool Summer Festival in February next year, and those in the know are getting pretty damn excited about it.

Held at Mt. Hotham, this festival is one-of-a-kind, set in the midst of a cool, green landscape, with fresh air, breathtaking views, and endless rolls of misty mountains in every direction. Not to mention the easy-listening Aussie artists jamming between trees, workshops, local food and wine and market stalls that will indulge your senses all weekend long.

Cool Summer Festival grew out of two mates who lived in the north-east of Victoria, reminiscing over a glass of wine about how festivals used to be.

The whole concept of low security, BYO food and alcohol, cheap tickets, free entry for kids, a family feel, and a whole bunch of great Australian musicians who you might never have heard of but knew would be great, seemed to be lost among the huge commercial festivals that litter the summer calendar these days.

Their reminiscing grew into the seeds of an idea, which in turn grew into Cool Summer Festival.

The festival organisers have consciously stayed true to their original idea of remaining independent, and resisting the spoils of large commercial sponsorship.

This time round, Cool Summer Festival is being headlined by Aussie icon John Williamson, and other musos include Nicky Bomba from John Butler Trio, Lee Rosser and Abbie Cardwell.

Lee Rosser says he loves to play at Cool Summer as it reminds him of how festivals used to be. "You get up and play, and then wander out onto the grass with the rest of the crowd to watch more music. So many festivals keep the artists well away from the crowds these days. This way, it is fun for us and fun for our fans as well."

In contrast to the majority of summer festivals, Cool Summer caters for families. In 2011 the festival will include various workshops aside from the live music, such as didgeridoo, beat boxing, drumming and circus tricks.
