Now one of the biggest music gatherings in the southern hemisphere, the Brisbane hosted BIGSOUND has announced its most impressive lineup to date. Turning 12 this year, Billy Bragg, Amanda Palmer and Kasey Chambers will head up the speaker's list, joined by 120 live artists playing over 12 venues.

In support of their new single Mr Number 1, Brisbane rock trio Greenthief have announced a celebratory tour, including a Melbourne show.


Mr Number 1 is a little taste of what's to come with plans to have their debut album released some time in 2013, and will see the Brisband boys working once again with ARIA-winning producer Steve James.

Releasing their debut full-length album is Brisbane four-piece and 'Unearthed' darlings, Last Dinosaurs. Bless is proper lo-fi noise, with a driving rhythm and clattering drum beat. Brisbane three-piece Matyr Privates have channeled The Jesus And Mary Chain into their own homespun brand of stealth alt-rock, complete with drawling, belligerent vocals and a swollen guitar sound. Nice.

Awesome melodic garage rock from Brisbane’s Velociraptor, heavy on the screaming harmonies and jangling R&B guitars, more Mersey Beat than Black Lips. This wicked fun single has one of those odd, stupid and memorable lyrics: “I tell her she should read the book / She says, ‘Why? I’ve seen the film.’” It’s funny, in a Norwegian Wood kind of way.
