The undisputed king of pop culture parody is touring Australia next year, and tickets are on sale now now now!

Weird Al Yankovic, the undisputed king of pop culture parody, is undertaking a tour of Australia and New Zealand in March 2011.

Presented by Lennard Promotions, the tour will begin in Adelaide on March 10, and will go through nine city venues, including Melbourne’s Palais Theatre on March 23.

Weird Al has sold more comedy recordings than any other artist in history, and in a career spanning nearly three decades he has amassed 28 Gold and Platinum albums, seven Gold and Platinum-certified home videos and three Grammy Awards (with 12 nominations).

He’s best known for his parodies of many of the biggest songs and more important artists of the last 30 years like Michael Jackson, U2, Madonna, Puff Daddy, R. Kelly, Usher, Sting, Billy Joel, Nirvana and Eminem, all with full approval from the artists themselves. His hits have included Eat It, Smells Like Nirvana, I’m Fat, Like A Surgeon, Amish Paradise and many others.

Straight Outta Lynwood is considered Weird Al’s most successful album, debuting at #10 on the Billboard charts, with the single and music video White & Nerdy remaining at #1 on iTunes and VH-1 for five weeks. The video clip quickly became a viral phenomenon, viewed over 110 million times on the net.

Weird Al’s current and recent projects include a 60-city tour of North America with his band, and a digital-only release of five songs called Internet Leaks. These songs will be included on a brand new studio album to be released next year.

Tickets are on sale now for Weird Al Yankovic’s Melbourne show, and can be bought at ticketmaster.com.au for $99.90. Wednesday March 23 at the Palais Theatre. Doors open 7.30pm.
