The new measures will be introduced over the next 48 hours.

Both the Victorian and New South Wales governments have announced they will be enforcing shutdowns on all non-essential services over the next 48 hours.

Supermarkets, pharmacies, convenience stores, banks, home delivery services, freight and logistics and petrol stations are among the services that will remain open.

Schools will be open as usual on Monday in both states, though school holidays have been pushed forward to begin on Tuesday March 24 in Victoria.

Both the Victorian Premier Dan Andrews and NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian were planning to push for lockdowns in tonight’s National Cabinet meeting, though with the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Australia climbing, both states will introduce strict measures to stop the spread.
