Tommy Little and Gossling team up for for a superb dose of songs and laughs

On paper this is a weird concept. A widely successful stand-up comedian slash Fox FM presenter and popular indie artist Gossling together on stage. In reality, it was a rare treat. One of the great things about the Melbourne Comedy Festival is that in addition to the brilliant range of acts performing traditional stand up you also get shows like this where people aren’t afraid to experiment.

Music is no stranger to comedy. However, usually, it’s a comedian playing the songs. An insanely talented musician and the supreme comedic timing of Little together worked a brilliantly, providing for one of the biggest highlights of the 2017 Melbourne Comedy Festival. According to Little, they sat down together to write a show about love, instead, despite Gossling being happily married with a kid and Little boasting a 4.8 Uber rating, it became about heartbreak.

No doubt no one in attendance knew how the music and comedy would play out. After introducing themselves Little began talking about various things before kicking off the main narrative about being in love with a girl from high school for well over a decade and his repeatedly dreadful interactions with her. Gossling created several songs that weaved seamlessly amongst Little’s enthralling storytelling. She also provided a few genuinely hilarious off-the-cuff moments of hilarity. As if her mesmerizingly sublime vocals weren’t already enough. Talk about a show-off.

Anyone who has seen Tommy Little before would know that he’s one of the most effortlessly funny comedians you’ll ever have the pleasure of seeing. This was no exception. It’s worth noting he’s also doing a solo show at the festival this year too. Just shows that you can add a musician into the mix and the laughs still flow regularly in amongst a great dose of heartfelt moments too.

Gossling live is so ridiculously impressive that her on her own would be enough to leave you thinking ‘wow, that was special’ in a Bruce McAvaney style voice, yet combined with the comedic genius of Little; well that just makes for a truly unique and memorable evening of comedy. As in 5 stars memorable.
