The Beast is Brunswick East in a bottle.

Lively, great eats and just the right amount of sleaze – The Beast is an effortless choice no matter what’s on (and there’s always something on). In freaky February, the bar’s got a big lineup of performers set to grace the stage.

They’ll also be hosting their tried-and-true weekday favourites including Big Stick Energy Mondays with chargrilled skewers and beer, Trivia Tuesdays and $1 Wing Wednesdays (make them “hot as f**k” if you’re a masochist).

Keep up with the latest music news, features, festivals, interviews and reviews here.

Get ready to giggle on Thursdays, because Belal HS and Max Flett are hosting Deep Fried Comedy, bringing special guests up to the stage to show off what they’ve got.

On Fridays and Saturdays, it’s bands galore, and entry is free (that’s more money you can spend on beers). Want to know who’s playing, do ya? Read on.

Oscar LaDell and The Earthtones

  • Friday, February 2
  • With Bryn Oakly

Get ready for a chilled-out night of indie soul as Oscar LaDell and his moody, groovy Earthtones take the Beast stage. Expect a night of inciteful lyricism, moving storytelling and sweet singer-songwriter bliss, with support from the rising RnB, neo-soul singer Bryn Oakly.

Pizza Death

  • Saturday, February 3
  • With Munt and Shatter Brain

Melbourne’s favourite pizza-themed band is hosting a HUGE pizza party and there will be a new menu item available to celebrate the momentous occasion: the artery-clogging smorgasbord known as the “Pizza Death Burger”. There will also be cash prizes up for grabs for winners of the Pizza Death video game and heavy riffs delivered by Munt and Shatter Brain.

Astro Elevator

  • Friday, February 9
  • With Skerzo and Özergun

Cap off your week with Astro Elevator, a Melbourne quarter serving up spaced-out, psychedelic prog rock jams. They’ll be joined by Skerzo, who take their inspiration from the 70s and queer culture, and Özergun, a jazzy, funky good time.

Ellie Gibson

  • Saturday, February 10
  • With Mia Piusano

Singer-songwriter Ellie Gibson will bring her unique brand of lyric-driven songwriting to the Beast. With a Bachelor of Music from Victoria University, she’s as skilled as she is driven. She’ll be joined by country-folk singer Mia Piusano, who takes her inspiration from the classics of the Nashville sound.

Lamassu

  • Friday, February 16
  • With Oceanlord and Honeybone

Grab some deep-fried munchies from the Beast’s well-equipt menu and jam out to some of Melbourne’s best stoner, psych and doom rock offerings: Lamassu, Oceanlord and Honeybone. Trippy, vibey and fuzzed out, the tunes will not disappoint.

Divers

  • Saturday, February 17
  • With special guests

This Melbourne experimental indie rock three-piece is a guaranteed good time. They’ve just released their second EP, The Sensory Edition, and their single Daytime Wanderers has been getting a lot of love from fans across the country.

  • With Complainer

Strap in for a night of indie folk and alternative with the Melbourne outer suburbs five-piece Fennec bringing “new tracks and lame jokes” to the Beast stage. They’ll be joined by Complainer, serving up their special recipe of indie rock, soul and punk.

The Seben Brothers

  • Saturday, February 24
  • Double Set

Get ready to rumble as a Beast favourite returns to the stage. The Seben Brothers will be playing Congolese jams, rumbas and soukous in a massive double set to finish off the month. If this doesn’t get you off your feet, we don’t know what will.
