Snakadaktal : Carnival

My stocks plummeted with my 20-year-old cousin Simon over Christmas when he told me his band was supporting the awesome Snakadaktal. I said, "Who are Snakadaktal?" and he laughed at me. I said, "No seriously dude, I don’t know who they are," and he stopped laughing. He looked at me like, what is wrong with you? This story might seem boring and irrelevant but I’m not sure the single is any... Read More

When it comes to music the phrase ‘industry showcase’ does not sound exciting. Men in suits, probably with ponytails and giant ‘90s mobile phones spring to mind. Thankfully over the past few years they are turning into a more public friendly affair. South By Southwest is perhaps the best known industry event, great for bands and drinking and good-times but has become a victim of it’s own success... Read More
Misfits

Misfits is a dark, sexy and badass English drama which is usually described as Skins meets Heroes. While that gives a pretty good idea of the premise, it doesn't do justice to the fact that Misfits has more than just crazy powers and big special effects, but characters that are both believable and relatable. The sci-fi elements are really well done and the effects... Read More

Brother/sister folk duo The McMenamins have been lucky enough to tour their music consistently over the last few years, including a recent jaunt overseas in the US where they played the famous SXSW in Austin, Texas, as well as scoring a spot at Australia’s premier folk festival, Woodford. Yet for Queensland-based Fleur McMenamin and her brother and bandmate Simon, coming down south to play shows... Read More
7th Heaven Sucks

Nick Taras lost a bet to his Danish friend, who is an avid fan of 7th Heaven, and a major bitch. His punishment was to review the pilot episode of the show. This is the result of his gamble. The very first scene in this “family” show is the father waking up with an erection. I should mention that this erection is never directly shown, but it’s most certainly implied. Erections probably aren’t a... Read More
There's A Ghost In My Cupcake

Whether or not we like to admit it, the majority of us have very simple senses of humour. For instance, I defy anybody not to laugh when some breaks wind. It is the good Lord's way of making laugh. This is how I am justifying to myself why I have just sat, and grinned inanely through a whole comedy show for children. It may not hold much water, but it's a theory. What more do you want?! As I take... Read More

Tunng

While being recognised as pioneers of a novelty sound can certainly be flattering, there comes a time in any band's life where they want to outgrow the buzzwords. Such is the case with British collective Tunng; once identified as being at the forefront of the genre-fusing movement known as 'folktronica', these days they would prefer to be regarded as simply a band.   "We...
