Simon Astley reveals upbeat new single, ‘Everything Will Be All Right’

Words by Tom Parker

It’s the Australian singer-songwriter’s first song of 2021.

Following on from the chaos of 2020, eclectic Australian singer-songwriter Simon Astley has just arrived with his upbeat new single, ‘Everything Will Be All Right’.

A song filled with buoyant brass and organ stretches, ‘Everything Will Be All Right’ matches lyrical positivity with equally-optimistic melodies.

Reassuring listeners they’re not alone in their adversities, the song’s title says it all. It’s about looking at the silver linings of COVID-19, and knowing that while you might be distanced from your loved ones, we are still able to unite together and tell our stories.

I love this adventure, but/It is time to go/It wasn’t my vision, but/This flight takes me home,” Astley sings as he tries to understand his own experiences.

Through rising vocal crescendos that break into choruses, ‘Everything Will Be All Right’ represents Astley’s innate songcraft. It’s indicative of an experienced singer-songwriter, so it’s no surprise Astley has toured extensively in Australia and overseas.

Making his break in 2012, where his song ‘London’ was played as part of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in the UK, Astley collaborated with Australian Idol winner Damien Leith on his 2020 track, ‘Love for the City’ – which reached a number seven spot on the Australian Top 20 Radio Streaming Charts – and has made a number of TV appearances across the journey.

Some of his spots included Marngrook Footy Show (Australia), Late Night with Monica Price (UK), The Real Sauce (UK), The Cath Vincent Show (NZ), Neighbours (Australia) and Underbelly (Australia), to name a few.
