Define your genre in five words or less: “Thirsty zen pirate music.”

Name: "Seamus Anthony."

Define your genre in five words or less:

"Thirsty zen pirate music."

How long have you been gigging and writing?

"Writing for 24 years and gigging for 19 years. Still a newbie, really.

"

What has been your favourite gig you’ve played to date?

"It’s a choice between the biggest (supporting The Tea Party in front of 5,000 people) or the most ego-gratifying (my old band Reckoning’s CD launch in front of 500) or any one of about 28 million gigs (in front of five people who were all employees of the venue)."

Which band would you most like to have a battle/showdown with?

"Eddy Current Suppression Ring, but only in a bowls-club karaoke battle."

What inspires or has influenced your music the most?

"God and aliens. Three years ago I was depressed and had decided to give up because I had failed to ‘make it’. But then – holding my newborn daughter for the first time – the voice of God came to me and said: ‘What are you going to teach her, stupid? To just give up?’ and my reply? ‘Hell no, G!’ Then aliens descended and re-calibrated my karmic energy blocks which mean I’m no longer scared of my power to rule the world. Ever since then I have been back on the music bandwagon and I intend to keep a-riding until I die."

Do you have any record releases to date? What? Where can I get it?

"In prehistoric times, me and my mates began releasing on cassette – but these days I mainly release digitally (i.e. by means of the fingers) – visit seamusmusic.com to get your free music booty."

Why should everyone come and see your band?

"Because you like Neil Young, Nick Cave, Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan and sometimes music by obscure geriatrics too, because you didn’t grow up in Melbourne and the word ‘Reckoning’ means something to you and because if you do come just because you read this, and let me know, I will be so surprised and grateful that I’ll buy you a drink. Straight up."

When and where are you playing next?

"Friday February 25 as part of the excellent Songwriters In The Round, upstairs at the former Vibe On Smith, now re-named Seraphim, 123 Smith Street, Fitzroy. The night kicks off at 7pm-ish with me and my pants on around 9pm. It’s only $5, that’s $1 per artist with a bonus act thrown in free. Boo-ya."
