What's your name then? Oh. And the name of your band… The Volcanics And what do you do? We play Australian rock 'n' roll. When did you start doing that? Three years with this line-up. Why did you start doing that? Because we have always loved rock 'n' roll. And we got sick of putting dimes in the jukebox. Do you think you're good at doing that... Read More

Aesop Rock and Kimya Dawson - Saturday October 15, The Forum

At first glance, Aesop Rock and Kimya Dawson might not seem like the most obvious pairing. One is a deep-voiced, cocksure cult hip-hop icon and one of the finest socio-political lyricists his industry has ever seen. The other is a nervy, sweet-voiced singer-songwriter who introduced herself to the mainstream by featuring heavily on the soundtrack of the 2007 indie-flick Juno. However, listen to... Read More

After much organisation and deliberation, a date and location has finally been decided for Occupy Melbourne - the international day of protest. It has been decided that the rally will begin at City Square on Saturday October 15, commencing at 10am. Occupy Melbourne is a non-violent protest as a means of sending a message to the financial sector worldwide. This day will be an international... Read More

One of my favourite bands of all time, Strung Out, released a collection of re-mastered songs last week. Titled Top Contenders it was a kind of best of (not including three new tracks), and I've gotta say that despite me loving this band with every inch of my being (especially the portion that is wildly sentimental, as I suspect this is what's fuelling the flame at the moment), releasing... I feel like we have a lot of fantastic local releases to be excited about at the moment. Just as it seems that all our international acts have deserted us in the face of our brutal winter, it would appear local talent has come through with the goods. Firstly the new album from The Smith Street Band (Poison City),No One Gets Lost Anymore,is a corker and singer Wil Wagner seems to be... Read More
