Port Melbourne’s London Hotel to be Demolished

Developers have lodged plans with Port Phillip Council for an eight-storey building, featuring 32 apartments, with a basement car park and a restaurant on the ground floor.

The building dates back to the 1860s but doesn’t have a heritage overlay. Since the news broke, the council has received more than 100 objections to the plans.

The venue has been repeatedly altered, with its art deco facade added in 1941. Port Phillip Mayor Bernadene Voss said, “Officer assessment and advice suggest the London Hotel is not of either local architectural or cultural significance and does not warrant heritage protection.”
