Mushroom Group unveil their plan to celebrate 50 years.

Founded in Melbourne in 1972, Mushroom Records has defined the Australian music scene for half a century. This year, we celebrate all that the flagship record label has gifted us, and we remember those who helped guide its success with events throughout the year, a documentary, new recordings of classic singles and limited-edition merchandise.

50 years of Mushroom Records

Mushroom Group are hosting a series of celebrations to commemorate the occasion, including a massive blockbuster anniversary concert in November, a feature documentary about Mushroom’s founder Michael Gudinski and a series of reimagined singles covering Mushroom classics from throughout the label’s history.

The first single to be released will be The Temper Trap’s take on the 1988 ARIA Single Of The Year and US top 30 Billboard hit Under The Milky Way by The Church. Over the coming weeks and months, fans will be blessed with recordings from the likes of Missy Higgins, Paul Kelly, Bliss n Eso and more massive names finishing with the definitive Mushroom 50 album near the end of the year.

“We’ve teamed up with some of the best artists to deliver these reimagined Mushroom hits,” Mushroom Group Chief Executive Matt Gudinski says. “Each artist is bringing their own distinct sound and vision to their cover. I’m sure you’ll love them.”

As well, a new line of celebratory Mushroom Group merchandise will be available for fans immediately, including vintage and modern designs.
