In collaboration with the Istituto Italiano di Cultura (The Italian Cultural Institute), ACMI is hosting the Milan Design Film Festival from May 19-30.

Featuring a selection of films from the ninth edition of the Milan Design Festival, this season aims to spotlight architecture and design through its range of documentaries and shorts. Trends, masters, innovators and contemporary currents will be explored through the festival’s broad selection of 20 films.

Kicking off the festival will be an opening night screening of The Importance of Being an Architect, a film that follows partners in business and life Antonio Citterio and Patricia Viel as they consider the ways that architecture shapes and improves people’s lives. Carlos Saura’s feature length documentary Renzo Piano: Architect of Light tracks the development of renowned architect Renzo Piano’s first project in Spain. Other titles in the program of 20 films include Disco Ruin, a definitive survey of Italian club culture, and Milano 20/21, an ambient exploration into the changes to Italy’s industrial north following the COVID-19 pandemic.
