What’s your name then?
“My name is Jim Bianco. The name of my band is Jim bianco. Also, my dad’s name is Jim Bianco. And my mother too.”
And what do you do?
“I write and sing songs that break your heart and make you laugh and make you think and make you feel horny.”
When did you start doing that?
“I’ve been writing songs since I was 12 years old.”
Why did you start doing that?
“I was in love with Jill Zawolik and I wanted to see her naked. I thought if I wrote her a sweet song, it might get me what I wanted. It turns out I was right. She eventually cheated on me, though, which led to me write more songs. So it goes…”
Do you think you’re good at doing that?
“No – I’m travelling 24 hours on a plane to play shows in Australia because I think I suck.”
If you weren’t doing that, what would you be doing?
“Trying to win back Jill Zawolik.”
What makes you happiest about what you’re doing?
“I really love performing. And I really love travelling. So when I get to visit a new place and meet new people and play for them, I feel quite lucky.”
And what makes you unhappiest about what you’re doing?
“24-hour plane rides.”
What’s you proudest moment of doing what you do?
“I’ve been trying to impress my father my whole life. He’s a stoic old-school Italian man with a pompadour who is rarely impressed. When I told him I was going to be a singer and a songwriter, he was NOT excited. But the first time he saw me perform live, he came up to me after the show, patted me on the back and said ‘That was actually pretty good’. It wasn’t much of a compliment, but it meant the world to me.”
And your least proud?
“I fell off the stage on Houston once, when I was too drunk.”
When are you doing your thing next?
“The Forum Theatre with Joshua Radin on June 23.”
