Grimes released a very good cassette called Geidi Primes. Then she released an album called Halfaxa. It was also very good. There are a lot of very good songs on both, but Grimes didn't play any of them tonight. That's ok, I suppose, because she played a few songs from what many people are calling the most very good album of the year, Visions. Six of them, to be exact. Grimes also played two... Read More

What characters we were. The local chapters of the Turbojugend with their fantastic embroidered denim jackets. The bindi-sporting girls with seapunk-turquoise hair and acute bangs. The kooks in their animal costumes. The babes with their resplendent floral headgear. The wide-eyed teens taking off on their maiden Meredithian journey. The hardened rock dogs clutching a perpetual tinny. All very... Read More

Performing and releasing material under the title Grimes, Claire Boucher has emerged as one of the most transfixing figures in contemporary music. After gaining intense blog adoration for initial cassette releases Geidi Primes and Halfaxa, Grimes broke through into widespread acknowledgement with the release of Visions in 2012. The album consolidates the... Read More

It’s 2012 and indie is dead. Not a great loss, really. Much like the T-1000 flailing around in the vat of molten steel at the end of Terminator 2, indie resorted to a rapid-fire metamorphosis – ephemeral flashes of chillwave, witch house, new R&B. There are traces of all of the above on Visions, what feels like the first fully-realised full-length from Grimes after a string of fairly... Read More
Grimes : Genesis

Canadian song smith Grimes (aka Claire Boucher) is set to release the album Visions on March 9 and Genesis is the sweet, upbeat slice of art pop candy that serves as an entrée. Opening with a skittering synth line reminiscent of Close Encounters, the track pulls dreamy electro layer over dreamy electro layer, then adds a slapping dance beat to make it all jump. Meanwhile, Grimes’ voice chases... Read More

Joe Grimes is an old school guy. Instead of spending hours plucking through young bands on websites like Grooveshark and Myspace, Grimes prefers to seek out his new music in independent record stores. He believes they're vital to a music community, so much so that he's ready to invest in said record stores. Sound of Melbourne Records is the brainchild of Grimes. It's meant to lend a voice to...
