The unique rumble of Brooklyn art-funk-fusion outfit Battles has always been begging to be remixed. Now, thanks to the sweeping success of their sophomore album, the un-spoonerised Gloss Drop, their music undergoes a full makeover. Having been handpicked by the trio themselves, the sheer variety of producers and beat-makers on offer reflects the group’s eclectic tastes. Much how its... Read More

Japan is about as culturally advanced as you could possibly imagine a country to be. Art, music, fashion – it’s all there and it’s always about as unusual and distinctive as you can get. No surprise then, that the man in question hails from the land of the rising run, despite his eventual move to the UK to more closely align himself to the electronic music scene – and it was his upbringing in... Grouplove : Tongue Tied
0 Comments. 1,837 Views. Posted 12 Oct 2011 @ 11:32am.
Grouplove return with another bounding, joyful single from Never Trust A Happy Song. Compared to Colours and Itchin' On A Photograph, Tongue Tied has a more consistent beat, more of a pumping dance rock aesthetic, similar to the all-in pop-gasms of Architecture in Helsinki. A ferocious indie party tune that sounds better if you play it loudly. Read More

John Maus: We Must Become the Pitiless Censors of Ourselves
0 Comments. 1,471 Views. Posted 20 Sep 2011 @ 11:42am.
This album comes wrapped in a certain seriousness – from its wordy thought provoking title to the sobering image of a lighthouse in a storm. You might expect sombre singer song writer musings but Maus greets us with tinkling faux Baroque arpeggiations of Streetlight that is quickly enveloped in a fog of dreamy synth textures that moves to an insistent wonky disco beat. Most will file this under... Read More

Miami Horror : Under the Milky Way

Synth posters Miami Horror have covered Under the Milky Way by The Church, to raise funds for an Indigenous arts foundation called Heaps Decent. They've added a disco beat and a few synth flourishes to this seminal new wave track - all kinds of wrong, to be honest, but for an indisputably good cause. Read More

Gary Numan, Severed Heads

I adore The Forum. Before you even add to the recipe the brilliant bands that play there, you have something truly unique in the world. Its intricate façade, with its Moorish influence, contrasting with the Greco-roman interior and the faux twilight ceiling bedecked with stars, ensures that there's always something beguiling to look at. Mix with this the sounds that have graced this grand dame... Read More

Severed Heads

Severed Heads' main-man Tom Ellard’s 30 year career should really have been defined by his incredible musical foresight, yet it was the eerie ‘whodunit’ narration on his one major hit, 'Dead Eyes Opened', that really stuck in the public’s consciousness. 17 years after that single, during which time Ellard remained quiet, yet musically active, he’s decided to end Severed Heads once and for all. “... Ever since exploding as a bonafide pop superstar in 1979, Gary Numan has forged a musical career that has since left a spasmodic contrail soaring and stuttering throughout the past thirty years of musical history. After releasing a series of albums that have gone on to accumulate deep reverence as harbingers of the electro genre, the momentum stalled as Gary’s passionate fanbase of ‘Numanoids’... Read More
