Making (radio) waves all over the web since earlier this year, online streaming service Rdio started with a bang with a launch party featuring some shit-hot acts in Sydney. Now Melbourne audiences won't be feeling left out, with a corker of a lineup helping spread the Rdio word this May.

Presented by Vice, the launch will feature the cream of local and Kiww talent.

Taken from their forthcoming sophomore album, Gun Has No Trigger sees the Dirty Projectors folding an crooning soul rock melody – something Simply Red might have toyed with, back in the day – into an increasingly strident harmony by the band’s idiosyncratic female vocalists. Such a strange brew I had to hear it a few times before I realised it was genius.

Define your genre in five words or less:

A soul/roots sound with a raw feel.

What do you love about making music?

Bo Koster knows a thing or two about pain. Sure, as the keyboardist for My Morning Jacket, he likely endures lengths of physical torture after one of their all-encompassing live sets. But today, he’s encountered pain of a different variety.

“I went to the dentist today,” says Koster, reached on the phone from his Louisville home. “The one side of my...

After a relatively brief respite (one which included guitarist Ben Andrews evolving into a forest-borne demigod at New Zealand's Camp A Low Hum), Melbourne's premier three-piece My Disco have announced their return to the live setting.

The band kicked off the year by belatedly releasing their first ever video for Turn, taken form their stellar LP of 2010 Little Joy....

My name is Steve Rodrigues, and I play noise/guitars for Husk.

I had high hopes for this record; talks of ‘juke joints’ and the ‘essence of the original soul movement’ got me quite excited. The dapper looking cats who make up Vintage Trouble certainly look like they could belt out some soulful sounding vintage rhythm ‘n’ blues but unfortunately what’s on offer on The Bomb Shelter Sessions is some standardised blues rock with a, dare I say it – ‘funky’...

Melbourne's favourite lo-fi pop dweebs, Twerps are heading to the USA in March for SXSW, and then a 5 week tour.

To say goodbye, and to raise a few much-needed funds for their trip, Twerps are playing an awesome show with besties Lost Animal and Super Wild Horses. The band will have their much-loved debut album available on the night on CD and vinyl. Tickets available on the...
