Dua Lipa is playing a surprise intimate Melbourne gig at The Palais in St Kilda

Dua Lipa Melbourne St Kilda Palais Theatre

Dua Lipa will play a surprise live Melbourne show at The Palais Theatre in St Kilda on Sunday October 3 as part of ALWAYS LIVE.

In one of the biggest shows to hit Australia this year, UK disco-pop superstar Dua Lipa will play an unprecedentedly intimate live Melbourne performance for 2,500 fans in an exclusive Victoria-only event at the iconic Palais Theatre on the St Kilda foreshore.

Marking the only small theatre show of her entire global tour, this will be Dua Lipa as audiences have never seen her and is emblematic of the array of unique, exclusive, and never-to-be-repeated live music experiences that will take place right across the state for ALWAYS LIVE – a series of concerts that will light up across the entire Victorian state in November.

Interestingly, the ALWAYS LIVE Dua Lipa Melbourne show announcement will take place over a month before Dua Lipa plays Rod Laver Arena on November 11 and 12 as part of her broader Future Nostalgia Tour. The tour will commence at Brisbane’s BEC on November 5, followed by Qudos Bank Arena Sydney on November 8, Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena on November 11 and 12, Adelaide’s AEC Arena on November 14 and concluding at Perth’s RAC Arena on November 16.

ALWAYS LIVE Chairman Matt Gudinski commented on , which is just one a series announced today: ‘It’s exciting to see the program for ALWAYS LIVE bought to life, a new major event which reaffirms Victoria as the music state of Australia and Melbourne as one of the leading music cities of the world. Always Live was a dream my late father had to reassure our states’ live music roots and I am proud to be part of the team making it a reality. Featuring over 180 artists, 90 events and engaging 65 industry partners, Always Live is a key part of reinvigorating Victoria through the power of live music. Whether it’s Billy Joel at the MCG, Dua Lipa at the Palais Theatre, Nick Cave at Hanging Rock or one of the many unique events which make up the program, Victoria is the place to be if you love live music.”

“The ALWAYS LIVE team has worked tirelessly with the global music industry to deliver on our vision for a major event dedicated to contemporary live music, and today ALWAYS LIVE reaches an incredible milestone as we deliver our second big program announcement,” said ALWAYS LIVE CEO Steve Smith. “Activating the state across Melbourne’s CBD and suburbs and throughout the regions, ALWAYS LIVE is a true reflection of the depth, breadth and world-class offerings of the live music industry and scene here in Melbourne and Victoria. We are tremendously grateful to our key stakeholders, the Victorian Government and Visit Victoria, for joining us on this journey and for their continued support for an initiative that will bring immense value to the state.”

Dua Lipa a major coup for a Melbourne theatre

One of the world’s biggest artists right now, with a swag of hit singles, top-selling albums, international awards and accolades to her name, Dua Lipa represents the true definition of a modern-day phenomenon – singer, songwriter, performer, style creative and philanthropist.

Dua Lipa’s second studio album Future Nostalgia (2020), has dominated the airwaves and delivered six extraordinary hit singles in Australia; ‘Don’t Start Now’ (seven-times platinum), ‘Levitating’ (four-times platinum), ‘Break My Heart’ (three-times platinum),  ‘Physical’ (two-times platinum), ‘We’re Good’ (platinum), and ‘Hallucinate’ (gold). The album is platinum and after becoming the third highest-selling album released in 2020, is still top 10 after 74 weeks in the ARIA chart, returning to the top spot earlier this year following the release of ‘The Moonlight Edition’.

Dua sent a message to her fans at the time: “I am beyond excited to be bringing my world tour to Australia, it’s been way too long, but I promise, we are going to have one heck of a party.”

Meanwhile, Lipa’s eponymous debut album has eclipsed six million sales worldwide, with single sales reaching 80 million and the video for her break-out hit “New Rules” (“the song that changed my life,” she says), made her the youngest female solo artist to reach one billion views on YouTube. She made BRIT Award history in 2018 as the first female artist to pick up five nominations, with two wins for British Breakthrough Act and British Female Solo Artist. She then went on to receive two Grammy awards for Best New Artist and Best Dance Recording for “Electricity,” her collaboration with Silk City the following year.
