Cathedral, the debut EP from Melbourne-based soundsmith James Wallace [aka Wintercoats], has garnered a slow-building wave of universal acclaim since its release mid-2010. Even in the month leading up to the release of the fully realised EP Sketches, Wintercoats’ debut was still being subjected to fresh blog adoration around the world. This somewhat unassuming buildup has led to an avoidance...

" Gurrumul's one of few musicians I work with that brings complete arrangements. He'll do beautiful, subtle things like write verses with phrases of three, but the final verse in four. Occasionally, [I suggest something] but I don't ever want to be seen as someone who rearranges things."

Three lines from Michael Hohnen - whitefella, producer, double bass player for indigenous...

Local four-piece Kins have a mini-LP due out on May 20 and a new single, the intriguingly spelt Mockasin's to promote it - a dreamy but restrained tune that makes much out of the spaces between the notes. The drums are almost metronomic, the guitar notes short and the basslines light as a nursery rhyme. Thomas Savage's sweet voice holds it all together; a distinctively high sound that falls...
