Pianist-comedian David Scheel has made something of a speciality of having fun at the expense of classical music

Pianist-comedian David Scheel has made something of a speciality of having fun at the expense of classical music; a well-known folk tune played in the styles of various old masters (plus an iPod mini!); a piece by Bach played with one hand and another by Andrew Lloyd Webber with the other hand(…at the same time!); even a mini-concerto based on the two worst tunes ever written. These, plus topical sideswipes at the icons of modern living, politicians, and whoever is making the news, all delivered in an enormous range of comic voices and accents, have let to greatest comparisons with Victor Borge, Robin Williams, Peter Ustinov and others.

So, if you want to hear beautiful piano music and laugh yourself silly at the same time, then David’s multi-award winning show, Don’t Shoot Me, I’m Only The Piano Player, a hit in London’s West End and right across the USA , is perfect for you.

David Scheel performs Don’t Shoot Me, I’m Only The Piano Player at The Melbourne Recital Centre on Tuesday April 12, Thursday April 14 and Friday April 15. Tickets are $35/$25 concession and you can book through melbournerecital.com.au or 9699 3333.
