It begins at touchdown. My taxi driver is wearing a three-piece suit, spruiking the positive changes Hobart has seen in the last five years while blasting Dr Dre’s 2001 as we speed the 17 kilometres into the handsome harbour town, the immense Mount Wellington rising to greet us in the background. The PW1 wharf, where most of MONA FOMA's musical program is housed, is a beast of a... Read More

Even while sporting a headset microphone while rocking a suit and sneakers combination, David Byrne was the peak definition of cool. It is a calculated cool, with Byrne teaming up with the masterful Annie Clark, aka St Vincent, for a meticulously choreographed tour of their joint album of last year, Love This Giant. The setlist entailed a deft mix of both artists solo work, plenty of Love This... Read More

Described as Peter Pan meets Tinkerbell in The... Read More

David Byrne and St Vincent’s art-rock project has been announced as the first act for this year’s MONA FOMA and it’s a good match for the grounds of Tasmania’s black-art den. Inspired by a Dark Was The Night collaboration between Bjork and Dirty Projectors, the like-minded twosome showcase their own distinctive vocals on the 12 tracks compiled for Love This Giant. Forming a united front, they... Read More

David and Annie have teamed up for a major album collaboration, Love This Giant, recorded over two years in Hoboken, New Jersey. The lead single is as arch and arty as you’d hope, skewing towards David’s swinging jungle pop, loaded with farting brass and smooth humming synth. St Vincent’s heavily layered vocals cut through with a bit of feminine silk. Interesting. More fun than phenomenal. Read More

Looking back, last year's Harvest lineup was nothing short of fucking awesome. And despite a few logistical mishaps in the inaugural Melbourne leg, the festival established itself as one of the giants on the calendar. As a result, expectations are running high for this year's instalment. Let's take a look at who might be gracing the lush surrounds of Werribee Mansion. First up, we can rule out... Read More

Where does utopia end, and dystopia begin? What darkness lurks in the shadows and ignored corners of a Brave New World? Heady questions but YACHT are on the case with their fifth full-length album. Yet another victory for New York dance label DFA, this glistening and darkly slick electro-punk outing screams out loud its concept of perceived perfection in society with a ferocity that at times...
