Few Australian albums have been as highly anticipated in recent memory as this debut album by Chet Faker. Few artists have experienced a meteoric rise in profile out of nowhere as Faker, real name Nick Murphy, either. Faker has gone from being a resident DJ at Hawthorn's ‘90s bar Nevermind only a few years ago to selling out Festival Hall with close friend Flume and playing shows at...

I kind of slept on Chet Faker’s emergence, as in, that shit put me to sleep, but Talk Is Cheap presents some tasty sax samples that provide a satisfying counter to Nick Murphy’s incessantly sincere croon. Goes to show that Murphy isn’t going to be slipping behind the new crop of emerging bedroom projects anytime soon.

BBFs (best bros 4eva) Flume and Chet Faker team up once again for an EP’s worth of pulsing electronica, the first taste of which is Drop The Game. It’s not really a banger, more in line with Flume’s remix of Disclosure’s You & Me. Nick Murphy’s soulful croon makes for a perfect complement to Flume’s sonic signature, generating more than a few melodic and tonal hooks.

Australia's current electronic poster boy has announced his biggest tour yet.

Dubbed the Infinity Prism Tour, these shows will be his first-ever national headline tour and will feature a entirely new stage production and extended set. The Infinity Prism is a device that references the kaleidoscopic imagery of his album cover in a live context by way of a hexagonal infinity...

Taken from a forthcoming live EP, Chet Faker’s latest single is a minimalist cover of Burial’s Archangel. Chet slows things down in the song’s first half, delivering a raw, crooning vocal; emphasising the soul in this new soul dub step tune. At the halfway point, the band kicks in with skittering instrumental parts and a simmering rhythm, but their jazz rock flow feels a little hokey. The...

What characters we were. The local chapters of the Turbojugend with their fantastic embroidered denim jackets. The bindi-sporting girls with seapunk-turquoise hair and acute bangs. The kooks in their animal costumes. The babes with their resplendent floral headgear. The wide-eyed teens taking off on their maiden Meredithian journey. The hardened rock dogs clutching a perpetual tinny. All very...
