I hear some bad news for Baby Panther fans – will this really be your last show in Melbourne?
“We have some members moving countries during this year so this is the reason why we decided to make an EP as it is our last chance to create this with the same members.”
How’d the recording of your EP go?
“We had very limited time but it turned out better than expected. The process is… well… EPs are never ready until just before the launch. We are in final stages of being stressed.”
What’s been your favourite Baby Panther gig memory?
“All memories are our favourite; even bad ones eventually turn good. But I am sure the next gig will be the best as it is going to be our biggest event.”
Can you give us one interesting fact about each individual band member?
“Yes. Sachiyo likes anime songs, Callum wears a wig, Masaki just recently got employed, Masanori is a guy and Kaz is quarter Japanese.”
Which member of the band do you think gets the most love from the crowd, and why?
“Masanori. He cross-dresses on stage, so he gets the love from curious girls and drunk guys, too.”
Okay. The world’s about to end and you’re the only ones left alive. To save the world, you must travel back in time and fight someone famous to the death. Who do you choose?
“Freezer from the Anime Dragon Ball Z; we can not only save earth, but save other planets too.”
QUESTIONS FROM BABY PANTHER TO VINCENT
How long have you guys known each other?
“Almost ten years. We met in school except for Tom, who Daryl met at KFC, where together they served the best, juiciest, tenderest chicken in the southern hemisphere (as well as fabricating words like tenderest)”.
What inspired you to make music together? How has your music evolved since you first began playing music together?
“Originally, it was groupies, drugs, and dollar bills. We started out with a loud, big kind of sound but over the years we’ve progressed a bit… we’re not going out there to be complex and technical, but we’re starting to bring slightly different ideas to song structure, dynamics and also more focus on meaning and lyrical content.”
Do you ever play any cover songs?
“Arc Arsenal by At The Drive In, the first song off an album which definitely blew our minds when it was released. We also covered Greig’s In The Hall Of The Mountain King as some of us are classical music geeks. Adem’s been working hard on his Lady Gaga solo cover (including outfit and choreography).”
What has been your biggest challenge as a band?
“I think it’s been the amount of time we dedicate to our music. We’ve always been studying and working full-time, and most of us have gone overseas for extended periods of time, so keeping the momentum going can be a bit of a challenge. However, we managed to put together a solid plan for our Collider EP though and used that to drive what we did as a band, which was a massive help.
How can fans-to-be gain access to your music?
iTunes or Bandcamp (vincenttheband.bandcamp.com): we’re donating half of all sales of Collider to charity The Song Room, so hopefully people dip into their wallet.
