In celebration and commemoration of Australian rock legend Bon Scott, The Corner Hotel will host a special non-theatre production called The Story of Bon Scott – Hell Ain't a bad Place to Be this February. It's been nearly 33rd years since the AC/DC frontman died. His bravado, tenacity and outrageous style created the rock'n'roll presence of the Australian band, taking the Fremantle band from... The Vendettas : Burn

With their debut Burn, Melburnians The Vendettas have released a ten -song all-guns-blazing barroom-brawl of an album. Beer-soaked and sweaty, the whole thing reeks of a good time. High octane alcohol fuelled riffs, addictively catchy melodies and fist pumping rhythms combine to create a solid and exciting effort that will have any fans of countrymen AC/DC and Airbourne or Swedes The... With their dark-edged punk attitude and cock-rock swagger Black Veil Brides are ready to take their place among the most popular young rock bands in the world today. The hard rock industry is beyond saturation so anything that steers away from the norm seems like a blessing. Their sophomore album Set the World on Fire has alternative press declaring it “Anthemic arena metal that draws equally... Read More
Destroy She Said: Music For Muscle Cars EP

Yes, this is proudly, unashamedly bogan rock - and I'm loving every second of it. It’s a four track EP from this Melbourne based four-piece, and from the cover which depicts one of the vehicles described in the title smoking up its tyres severely, to the singer’s voice which is clearly heavily Bon Scott influenced, this isn’t just music for muscle cars, it’s also music for flannel and denim-clad... Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap

AC/DC – the name evokes nothing but hard rock, fever and passion. One of the highest-grossing bands of all-time, they are still uniquely Australian. The effect they have had on rock and popular culture has been profound and truly massive. Original vocalist and founding member, Dave Evans, together with Alfie, lead singer of AC/DC tribute band Dirty Deeds, sit down with me to discuss the band,... Read More

At age 19 Mark Evans was a working in the accounts department of the Post-Master General's Department. Despite playing in a few local bands, Evans saw his future tied to his prowess on the football field, rather than in the musical sphere. A chance visit to the local pub, however, changed everything. "A guy I knew through footy was working as a roadie for AC/DC," Evans recalls, "and he said they... Read More
Heaven The Axe

Heaven the Axe could certainly be the next band to break out of the sluggish Australian heavy rock and metal scene and really make a name for themselves not only on the national, but global scene. Featuring some of the absolute cream of the Aussie heavy music scene, such as former members of Damaged, Manticore, The Berzerker, The Amenta and many more, the band is also fronted by the very... " What did AC/DC bring to Australian culture? They formalised the typical Aussie rock sound," says guitarist AK. "Strip it all back and it is ripping Chuck Berry rock on steroids." AK should know - he earns a living playing in one of Australia's premier AC/DC cover bands. When he first heard the Dirty Deeds album, circa 1976, AK felt all the pieces falling into place. He knew he wanted to be... Read More

What’s your name then?   “My name’s Damo.”   And the name of your band...   “The band’s called Muscle Car.”   And what do you do?   “I sing and play guitar.”   When did you start doing that?   “Back in 1999 after a stint on drums with the Blood Sucking Freaks. We were originally based in Adelaide but boredom got the better of me and a relocation was... Read More
Calling All Cars at The Northcote Social Club

Openers Strangers belted out a loud, thrashy set of garage-y rock for the very solid crowd of punters at The Northcote Social Club this night, and warmed the crowd up nicely for the main event. This type of rock ‘n’ roll has obviously been done many, many times before, and will be done about the same again. There will always be a place for young bands who are light on skill, but extremely heavy... Read More

The Irish band that accompanied AC/DC on the Black Ice World tour do a passable cover of the Rose Tattoo classic. These guys have marshalled the seventies metal sound without bothering to add anything original to it, so there's not much to say about them. I assume AC/DC like them because they make AC/DC feel contemporary. Read More
The Siren Tower : Floods

Despite being not at all my thing, Floods has a brash and fearless energy that I can’t help but admire. The debut single from a new Perth act fronted by Grant McCulloch (Heavy Weight Champ), it’s a hyper agitated form of Australian rock that pounds from verse to chorus without a breath. Sounds like a hard rock version of Something for Kate, thanks in large part to McCulloch’s voice Read More
