Over the span ofAlmost Anything, Melbourne band Self Talkgive newcomers a taste of what theyre all about. Opener Little Song begins with strings that, much like the rest of the song, tease. The song serves as a perfect hook for the rest of the EP.

Bedside Dictionary and Old Habits are both solid pop-punk tracks. While they dont throw listeners off like Little Song, they do feel instantly familiar, and more importantly, exciting. Who doesn’t love a song they can bop their heads along to?Skin is a highlight, and features a staple of pop-punk instrumental breakdowns. For most of the EP, the instruments feel like a platform for frontwoman Stacey Cicivellis vocals, but here theyre brought to the forefront.

Closer Origami revisits the sounds explored on Little Song. Cicivelli sings, “Im like origami in your hands, which is a sentiment we can all relate to. After all, everyone has someone they feel helpless around. Self Talkhave found a great balance with this EP.Theyre a band that you can relate to, but most importantly, theyre a band you can chuck on and have a dance to.
