Mod Vigil : Mod Vigil

modvigil.jpg

I like the idea of a mod vigil.  A group of parka-clad youths clustered around sparkling Lambretta scooters, listening to Booker T and the MGs, James Brown and The Who, disgruntled with the establishment, intent on social disruption. Someone turns up, and there’s a bag of purple hearts passed around. The vigil is over. Let the night begin.

Mod Vigil is actually the latest outfit for former Specimen and Kids of Zoo, Tim Wold.  Wold is still a man working off a punk rock insult.  Cut Bag is wild, frenetic and manic, rock’n’roll in its most intense amphetamine-spiked guise.  Deaf Proof is anything but; if you’ve got any aural capacity left after a Mod Vigil encounter, you’re not trying.  Bad Day is the cathartic punk rock anthem we’ve all been waiting for, the SST-meets-Dischord attitude of Free Range would provoke a visit from animal welfare authorities and Rare Au Pair is a love song, French punk style. If its catchy pop music puns you’re looking for, check out Fall Out Boi; if it’s a lobe-crunching post-Lizard Train workout you want, hang out with Crime Dog. Mod Vigil is worth the wait.
