Hello Tut Tut

Who are we chatting to? Josh Szabo, the happy Hungarian bass player in world music dance band Hello Tut Tut.

What do you reckon people will say you sound like? An authentic Eastern European village party, only transported to Melbourne. The music is a hard hitting mix of Klezmer, Balkan, Gypsy and Latin and makes you wanna up and boogie hard.

What do you love about making music? As young Australians with European backgrounds this band gives us an opportunity to explore our roots. We compose and perform music that taps into rich traditions.

What inspires your music most? The way different cultures around the world express themselves musically. Why are odd time signatures such as 7/8 more common than 4/4? What’s with that minor second in that minor scale? Cultural musical differences yield different sounds and experiences; they make you play and dance and feel differently.

If you could travel back in time and show one of your musical heroes your stuff, who would it be? Our musical heroes are the folk heroes who did their bit to keep the music alive. Going back in time would be an opportunity to learn from the masters and to share with them something contemporary.

What can a punter expect from your live show? A dynamic, fun and high energy performance and a very welcoming space to dance and play.

What’ve you got to sell CD-wise? We’re launching our newest single ‘Rhino’s Daydream’, an East-Europe meets West-Africa fusion banger, which will be available for streaming online.
