What’s the band name and what do you do? Name is cTrix – I’m the programmer, composer and synth wrangler. I also juggle 1980s gaming hardware on stage.
What do you reckon people will say you sound like? 1980s arcade games with a modern twist and a lot more bass.
What do you love about making music? The limitations. A guitar only has limited strings. A monosynth can only play one note. A Commodore 64 can only play three notes (and noise), but damn, you can do a lot with any of those given enough attention to detail.
If you could travel back in time and show one of your musical heroes your stuff, who would it be? The Australian CSIRO team who developed the CSIRAC computer in the ‘50s. They made the first (known) digital computer program to play music directly from ‘RAM’ (of sorts). They invented the software synth years ahead of its time.
What can a punter expect from your live show? A bunch of fun, energetic tracks which combine deep synth, dance, progressive metal and retro sounds. My setup is a Sega Megadrive (1988) and Commodore Amiga (1987) along with live mono-synth.
What’ve you got to sell? I’ve got USB sticks with around eight hours of music, four hours of video, various source code and even bonus tracks from my friends.
