Winner of Deadly Funny comedy competition crowned

Comedian Fabian Woods takes out the top spot.

Melbourne International Comedy Festival's Deadly Funny National Final and Showcase has crowned its for 2019, with the final competition to be broadcast on SBS and NITV later on this year.

The Deadly Funny competition uncovers the best up-and-coming Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander comedians. For its 14th year, the National Deadly Funny title was awarded to West Australian comedian Fabian Woods. Woods' routine focused on non-stop punchlines and stories about growing up in a low socioeconomic area.

This year's Deadly Funny showcase was hosted by comedian Steph Tisdell, and featured special guests Luca and Tyler Saunders, Dhungala Baarka and 2018 winner Leon Filewood. The competition was judged by Kevin Kropinyeri, Caroline Martin, Celia Pacquola and Sam Simmons.
