Strawberry Fields is celebrating 10 glorious years with a retrospective exhibition

Unpacking the history of the adored music and arts festival.

Can you bloody believe it? Strawberry Fields has been around for a banging ten years. And with such a mighty milestone under their belt, the team have worked up an epic retrospective exhibition to help past and present punters alike take a trip down memory lane. Set that map to Tocumwal folks, and get going.

Strawberry Fields has called Tocumwal home for their last seven instalments. Nestled on the border of Victoria and New South Wales, this 1800-resident strong nugget has proved the perfect post for the event, for its lush bushland and prime real estate along the bank of the Murray River.

To celebrate the festival, and of course the town in which it takes over, the ten-year exhibition has been set up at the Tocumwal War Memorial Hall, and will be open to the public on select days leading up to the festival. A collaborative effort between the festival and Monash University’s architecture faculty, as well as photographers Duncographic and Zeazy, and visual art collective John Fish, the exhibition is not your usual museum fair.

Designed to offer Tocumwal locals -- and Strawberry Fields lovers from far and wide -- the chance to participate and integrate with the festival on a grander scale, this exhibition is truly all sorts of grand. A team of architecture students from Monash have designed and installed a series of staggering large-scale structures in the hall, with the intention of not only capturing the history of the festival, but its ethos too.

Made entirely out of cardboard (Strawberry Fields has always been a trailblazing festival committed to reducing its impact on the environment), the collection includes a giant video dome, walls surrounding the hall, counters, an entry stage and hundreds of photos hung up reflecting the last decade of Strawberry Fields moments.

The Strawberry Fields 10th Year Retrospective Exhibition is open to the public at the Tocumwal War Memorial Hall from 10am to 5pm on Saturday October 27 and Saturday November 3, and will be available for all festival punters to lap up at the larger onsite gallery MONOSS (Museum Of New and Old Strawberry Stuff) throughout the event. There's also set to be a series of artist talks and workshops going down too. Booyah.

Alongside their packed lineup (think the likes of Hiatus Kaiyote, CC:DISCO!, KAIIT, Wax'o Paradiso, Honey Dijon and more), this tenth installment of Strawberry Fields is surely shaping up to be their most magical yet.

Strawberry Fields goes down in Tocumwal, New South Wales from Friday November 16 until Sunday November 18. Find more details via the festival website
