Screening Next Week: The documentary exploring China's underground music scene

Filmmakers Jake Lloyd Jones and Thomas Hyland were blown away by China’s rich musical melting pot.

Relaxed cultural policies of the Chinese Communist Government have allowed for greater artistic exploration and a flurry of outstanding rock music talent has come to the fore. Chinese record label Maybe Mars have been at the heart of the transformation and now they’re bringing a documentary to Melbourne exposing the unprecedented movement.

Performances from Melbourne noise band Primitive Calculations and Beijing rock outfit White+ will accompany the screening which looks to uncover career obstacles seldom faced in Australia. Maybe Mars are also bringing an art exhibition to Old Bar on Tuesday February 21.
