After 30 years based in St Kilda with op shops ranging in an arc from South Melbourne through to Bentleigh, Sacred Heart Mission moved north of the Yarra and opened two op shops. Like their other eight op shops, their two northern ones are open seven days a week.
Wonderful community support from shoppers, donations and volunteers has helped both shops thrive. The stock at both shops reflects the generosity and style of the inner north community. New stock appearing throughout each day ensures a fresh shopping experience for seasoned op shop campaigners and occasional shoppers alike. As well as an eclectic range of clothing, shoes, accessories, bric a brac and books, their Fitzroy shop additionally boasts some wonderful furniture.
The deep generosity of the local community helps the Mission provide a broad variety of services to people experiencing homelessness, disadvantage and social isolation. For example, each day around 400 people come from all parts of Melbourne to enjoy a free three course lunch, often their only meal of the day. Donations of quality pre-loved goods are welcome during business hours and they have a free collection service for furniture and larger quantities of goods – call 9536 8437 to book.
