Marvel Stadium has officially arrived

Etihad Stadium? Don’t know her.

Melbourne Stadiums Limited have officially broken up with Etihad Airways, who were paying between $5-$8 million a year for the naming rights to Docklands Stadium. The break up also puts an end to the controversy between the AFL initially refusing to recognise the stadium name because they’re with Qantas. Scandalous stuff.

The installation of the huge new Marvel Stadium signage marks the official re-branding of the stadium. It also marks the start of many frustrating corrections from here on out when anyone accidentally calls the stadium by its old name, but we should all have it down pat before the end of the eight-year partnership between The Walt Disney Company and Melbourne Stadiums Limited.

Expect to see new street artwork, a giant character wall and plenty of fresh signage - because you can never have enough. Some of these signs are pretty cool though seeing as they’re among the largest neon signs in the country, measuring 35 metres wide and six metres high.

If you’re into posting photos in front of things (and who isn't), make sure to make the most of the new installations at Marvel Stadium before endless selfies pollute the location geotag entirely.

The first official event at Marvel Stadium will be the Melbourne Victory/Melbourne City FC match on Saturday October 20, followed by Taylor Swift’s concert on Friday October 26.

You can find Marvel Stadium on 740 Bourke Street, Docklands.
