How to kickstart your career in the media industry

We caught up with Holmesglen Institute to see what they can offer budding media makers.

What art and design courses do you offer?

We offer a range of courses from certificates, diplomas and degrees. Holmesglen delivers over 530 courses, but within arts and design we have courses in: animation, screen and media, radio and television, short film, fashion, graphic design, interior decoration and design, photography, and printing.

How does Holmesglen prepare students for work in the real world?

Our courses allow you to show off your skills and get creative, while working on projects with industry partners. You will gain experience with the latest media and technology, as well as experience team-based work in a professional context. Each course will give you the practical training you need in purpose-built facilities, including multi-camera, screen production, animation and radio studios.

What have graduates gone on to do?

We know training is only ever as good as the chance to get out of the classroom, away from the books and, actually, immerse yourself in the work environments you one day aspire to work within. We have radio graduates working as producers at smoothfm, Fox and Nova, while our current students get to hone their skills at 88.3 Southern FM. Plus, if you’re a screen and media student, you will get to display your work at ACMI. Holmesglen is also proud to be involved in the Melbourne International Film Festival and the Melbourne International Animation Festival, as well as events such as the Brownlow Medal.
