Goethe-Institut

What does the Goethe-Institut offer their students?  We offer German courses from beginners to native-speaker level. There are courses for children, VCE students, company courses, private tuition, intensive courses as well as term courses and exams. Apart from facilitating German courses, the Goethe-Institut supports Victorian schoolteachers and organises various cultural events throughout the year.

Tell us about the Goethe-Institut? The Goethe-Institut is the cultural institution of the Federal Republic of Germany operating worldwide. We’re a non-for-profit organisation, which promotes the knowledge of the German language abroad and fosters international cultural cooperation.

How do Goethe-Institut classes differ from other classes of their kind? Learning German at the Goethe-Institut doesn’t just mean learning a language, but also getting to know a culture. Our teaching reflects the most recent knowledge in research, is varied and communicative.

How do your teachings foster a sense of community? Being a Goethe-student means being able to access every resource that the Goethe-Institut has to offer, so learning is not restricted to the classroom. Among our range of activities are cultural events, special workshops, parties as well as an annual scholarship to a course in Germany.

Can you share with us a Goethe-Institut moment you will never forget? Not so much a moment but, last year, a particular student flew in from Canberra each week to attend one of our weekend courses as he said, “Nothing compares to being tutored at the Goethe-Institut.” We thought that was pretty special.
