For eleven days, over 200 members of the literary community will come together with audiences to celebrate and explore writing through ideas, storytelling, and performance, while attempting to answer the question: how do you be a writer in the world? There’ll be tips and advice for writers who are just starting out, as well as for those who are looking to refine their craft and diversify their practice.

The program features a range of masterclasses, exhibitions and a host of sessions to inspire writing in all its forms.

Highlights include the National Writers Conference which will see industry professional from around the country- including Adam Liaw, Alice Pung, Chandani Lokuge, and First Dog on the Moon come together for two days to inform and inspire writers of all genres.

Artists Izzy Roberts-Orr, Lorelei Vashti, Jon Thija, Bec Fary, Beth Atkinson-Quinton, and Heidi Pett will lead a masterclass on the nuts and bolts of making a podcast, covering all the fundamentals, from story elements, production values and marketing, while It’s Not Easy Being Green sees artists including Khalid Warsame, Stephanie Convery, and Michelle Law confess to a writers’ most common sin: envy.

Poets, authors and journalists including Telia Nevile, Katie Keys, and Oscar Schwartz will praise and decry the evolution of language in a fast-paced debate night called Sticks and Stones, while Youtube Party will bring the natural evolution of any drunken dinner party to life on ACMI’s big screen.
