How are Footscray City Films courses unique? Our courses are delivered by actually making films rather than just sitting in a classroom, so students really get to learn how a film set works. Once a student graduates they have had experience working on around 60 different films – you end up with a huge showreel of work.

What skills do you teach specific to your industry? Cinematography, editing, directing, producing, sound, lighting, and art direction – to name a few. Our workshops are taught by professionals who are currently working in the film and television industry so they provide students with practical knowledge that is current and meets industry standards.

What are you most proud of at Footscray City Films? Lots of things, however we are really proud of the reputation our students have in the Australian Film Industry. We are also proud of the numerous successes our graduates have had all over the world in renowned festivals such as Cannes and Sundance

How does what you teach foster a sense of community? Filmmaking is such a collaborative process that it encourages individuals to be supportive, it awakens a sense of community in all of us. We have ex-students who are still working together from when they met at film school over 15 years ago.

What’s some exciting Footscray City Films news? We have just completed a huge facilities upgrade including installing a new green screen in the studio. We also have a feature film project coming up that’s really exciting and should be a really great experience for our students.
