Circle Mirror Transformation
You know something's good when the word “hype” springs to mind. And that's exactly the case in regards to America's new favourite playwright Annie Baker.
To put things in perspective for you, The New York Times said that she was “one of the most promising new stage talents to emerge in the past decade.”
Her critically acclaimed play Circle Mirror Transformation tells of the uncertainty, curiousity and suffering of five ordinary people with a lot of emoitional baggage.
To make things even more interesting, the entire story is based in a six-week community acting class. It tells of this group compiled of a student, three adults and their teacher as they go through exercises designed to loosen their bodies, strengthen their voices and liberate their imaginations. Yet, as the weeks pass, the participants grow to discover that something utterly transformative is being created between them.
A hilarious and thoughtful drama, it captures these five individuals that have all reached cross-roads in their lives, exposing some of their most secret desires and hidden insecurities to each other, all in the guise of creative expression.
Circle Mirror Transformation will be brought to Melbourne from 17 August – 17 September at the MTC Theatre.
