Bell Shakespeare to present 'Richard 3' in Melbourne

Legendary Australian theatre troupe Bell Shakespeare are bringing one of the Bard's most iconic tales to Melbourne.

First performed in 1593, Richard 3 paints a portrait of a Machiavellian psychopath that manipulates his way to the ruling class, slaughtering his family, marries his victim's widow and betrays his allies - all in a quest to become king.
Sound familiar? Feel free to join the dots on why this 1593 Shakespearean play is frighteningly apt both to a 2017 audeience and to the state of contemporary politics.
Award-winning actor Kate Mulvany will star as one of history's most gleefully amoral villains, with Artistic Director Peter Evans re-imagining Shakespeare in a way that is bold and contemporary, while staying true to the text's roots.

Richard 3 runs at Arts Centre Melbourne, Fairfax Studio from April 20 - May 7.
