What's better than a good trivia night? Here are the best trivia nights in Melbourne.
Young Hearts
Young Hearts in Windsor hosts their Trivia Night every Wednesday from 7-9pm. Food on offer is from the team at Freddy’s Pizza, the venue’s first and current kitchen residency, with vinyl tunes on rotation all night. Plus, winners get to take home prizes actually worth winning.

The Beast
It’s time to test your expertise in rock and pop culture as established Melbourne party DJ, music writer and broadcaster Jess McGuire and fellow Corner quiz-man George Hatzigeorgiou interrogate you with their bottomless pit of music and film knowledge. Whether there’s a Seinfeld or heavy metal flavour, the Beast’s Tuesday trivia night is not one for the faint-hearted or empty-headed. Three rounds of but-gusting, impenetrable quizzing which has you reconsidering why you embarrassed yourself by coming. Winners take home beers, beers and more beers with awards as simple as a free pint or a free slab.

Belleville
Belleville’s the beauty to the B.East. The sister of the aforementioned esteemed trivia location are chicken legends and have recently become trivia icons. This Parisian inspired dive just celebrated one year of existence and only inaugurated their trivia series in April. They’ve gone bang, bang, bang with themes tickling everyone’s fancies. Tarantino was followed by Sex & The City and then The Simpsons… nasty. Every second Tuesday, hosted by Trivia (not Olivia) Newton John.

Lulie Street Tavern
Thursday nights at Lulie St Tavern means a date with Melbourne roustabouts Dan Watt and Tyson Wray. It’s all pretty laid back when you enter the unassuming, down-lit Abbotsford bar – there’s James Taylor spinning, darts bullseye-ing and chatter murmuring but then you’re handed a kilometrico and piece of paper with numbers 1-10 on it and it’s game on. Oh, and Donald Trump is the symbolic ambassador. If that’s not enough to get you excited, what is?

Revolver Upstairs
Revolver Tuesday trivia is one for the daredevils and trivia veterans. It’s one of Melbourne’s most thoroughly prepared trivia nights showing off the nightclub’s expertise in a field where innovation and exploration is key. It begins with a visual round hosted by a former trivia contestant, Kashia Kennedy. Then it’s onto six rounds of the wackiest, most outlandish questioning with segments ranging from Naked Mooofies to Topic Thunder and Useless/Useful Information. Colonel Tan’s got the pan frying for those in need of a pick me up after a bad round.

Spotted Mallard
It’s just your old classic three-way combo of music, movie and TV trivia – but every week’s seasoned a little differently. The guys at the Spotted Mallard are always hunting for what’s new and what’s important in the world, with each week’s topic signifying that. Whether its Wayne’s World or Peep Show trivia or just a night dedicated to the movies and songs of one particular year, Spotted’s Fact Hunt trivia night is fitted for the couch potatoes and music tragics out there. They’ve taken a brief hiatus until Tuesday June 21 when they’ll unleash an all-out Seinfeld interrogation affair.

The Corner Hotel
Aforementioned quizzing doyens Jess McGuire and George Hatzigeorgiou have just celebrated 10 years of hoodwinking and deception at the Corner rooftop and as the legacy strengthens the trivia gets better. It’s so nice I’ve got to mention it twice, with Wednesday’s at the Corner almost identical to Tuesday’s at the B.East. It’s the same theme but different location and as you sit above one of Melbourne’s most iconic live music stages. I hope the soundwaves from David Gilmour’s guitar or Mick Jagger’s voice are there in spirit to provide inspiration. Good luck.

The Rose Hotel
With drink prizes, money vouchers, slabs of beer and disco lamps as prizes each week, the Rose Hotel’s trivia night is one of the Melbourne’s most generous. The once sport-adoring Fitzroy pub recently underwent a makeover, but didn’t lose its trademark trivia flare. The audio round sees a snippet of a song played to contestants who have to guess the name of the track while participants have to guess the title tracks of certain albums in the music round. Other segments explore themes such as movies and pop culture.

The Mitre Tavern
Melbourne’s oldest building holds the record for Melbourne’s longest continuously running trivia night. Now in its 14th year, the Mitre Tavern runs trivia every Tuesday and Wednesday night. SoundStorm Trivia were there when it all began and they still remain, generating question after question for the historic pub along with a number of other venues. They cover a range of topics to appeal to everyone’s tastes and the quiz is never too difficult catering for all punters including those feeling a little belittled by McGuire’s mystifying tactics.

The Wilde
It’s a pub known for drawing some of the best local and international comedy talent to its Tuesday night schedule but what about its trivia potential? Well they’ve got that covered too, scalping one of the members from that esteemed comedy club to host its weekly trivia night. Eve Ellenbogen was born in NYC and spent much of her time in South Korea trying to kickstart her stand-up career. Now she’s the MC of The Wilde’s Wednesday trivia night. There’s a strong music feel to this occasion which also swanks a bounty of giveaways with drink prizes awarded after each round and a $50 bar tab for the winning team. Tick.
