Floating Me at Northcote Social Club

Loved: Everything.Hated: That one guy that was yelling out for a Scarymother song. Die slowly.Drank: A lime spider.   BY JACK PARSONS

Grace Jones at The Palais

Loved: Even my highest expectations felt woefully inadequate by the end.Hated: Waiting an hour over the scheduled start time for GraceDrank: It said ‘wine’ on the label, but I beg to differ.

The Wilson Pickers : Northcote Social Club

Loved: The way the ‘Pickers audience shake off their troubles and dance with a smile on their face... and that all the ladies in the audience swoon over the guys in the band while the guys in the audience swoon over the ladies in the audience. Hated: There’s nothing to hate at a ‘Pickers gig. Feel the love. Drank: Bulmers Original & Bulmers Pear Cider.

The Fearless Vampire Killers : Pigdon Street, North Carlton

Loved: the fact that everyone I struck up a convo with was wicked Hated: the rain Drank: Melbourne longnecks, fuck yeah!

SXSW 2011 Part 2

Loved: Seeing 50+ bands over the Thursday and Friday Hated: The Strokes being so goddamn lacklustre Drank: Enough to consider myself a red-hued god of havoc and war

The Jezabels at The Corner Hotel

Loved: Hayley Mary – she’s the hottest girl in music. Hated: They tall guy in front of me. But, since that’s the only thing I can think of, it was definitely a good gig. Drank: Pure Blonde.

Kimbra at The Corner Hotel

Loved: It all. Hated: No music to buy at the merch stand, in fact, nothing at all. Drank: A frothy pint of sweet, iced apple cider

Aural Window,Black And White, The Eternal & Jericco at The Evelyn

Loved: The entire night Hated: That these nights/bands aren’t selling out much larger venues, as they fully deserve to (meaning absolutely no disrespect to the mighty Evelyn of course!) Drank: The Coopers green label went down a treat.

SXSW 2011

Loved: The fact that the everywhere in the city is hosting a band or playing loud music. Hated: That Mumford & Sons have ruined music for everyone – every band of buskers suddenly has a mandolin and look like they stepped out of private school fifteen minutes ago. Drank: Everything.

Kimbra at The Corner Hotel

Whimsical and all-round delightful, Kimbra’s set flew by in no time leaving the crowd hungry for more. Sadly her EP is yet to be released but with a dedicated and growing fan base it’s almost guaranteed to be a hit.

Os Mutantes / Best Coast at The Forum

Loved: Os Mutantes' seamless splicing of genre. Hated: Best Coast's smuggness. Drank: Japanese beer.   Nick Hilton.

The Holidays & Gold Fields at Karova Lounge, Ballarat

The whole set seemed to be a perfect combination of soothing steel drums, crazy guitar and synth riffs with lyrical brilliance sung in lovely harmonies. The well-earned buzz surrounding these gentlemen is likely to outgrow itself very soon. STEF SHARKEY

Holly Throsby at The Corner Hotel

Loved: It’s Only Need’s haunting, introspective beauty and Throsby’s charming sense of humour. Hated: Negativity at a Throsby gig? There is no such thing, my friend. Drank: Bottled beer.
