Memorials is set to electrify Melbourne on their first-ever Australian tour.
Memorials, the captivating duo comprised of multi-instrumentalists Verity Susman (formerly of Electrelane) and Matthew Simms (noted for his work with Wire, Better Corners, It Hugs Back, and UUUU), is ready to embark on their debut Australian tour.
As a duo, Verity and Matthew defy expectations, covering an extensive musical spectrum on stage that belies their compact lineup. With a setup reminiscent of a five-piece band, they effortlessly juggle instruments, seamlessly transitioning from melodic songwriting to psychedelic noise, free jazz freakouts, tape loops and drones, and back again.

The partnership between Verity and Matthew dates back to 2007 when they met as label mates on Too Pure. Their respective bands, Electrelane and It Hugs Back, shared similar motorik paths, leading to sporadic collaborations throughout the 2010s.
In 2020, they formalized their collaboration with the formation of Memorials, driven by a shared passion for soundtrack work. Both Verity and Matthew bring a wealth of experience to the table as songwriters and multi-instrumentalists, with Matthew renowned as a recording engineer and mixer, and Verity trained in Western classical composition.
Memorials’ debut Australian tour follows their successful UK tour with Sonic Boom & Panda Bear, bringing their exciting new project to Australian audiences.
At the heart of Memorials’ repertoire are their phenomenal double debut albums, Music For Film: Tramps! and Women Against The Bomb. These albums serve as soundtracks to two evocative films, exploring the transformative period of the 1980s as it emerged from the chrysalis of the 1970s.
At Darebin Arts, the duo will be joined by the enigmatic Hantu.
