SiB EP Launch
A one-man soul explosion, SiB presents his debut solo EP - but it is neither a solo affair nor his first musical offering. Rather, SiB is the culmination of years of toil and inspiration (or perhaps perspiration) as Siboulet has crept the boards of Australia's music scene for the good part of the past decade, meeting minds and collaborating with artists as varied as Mick Harvey, Jade MacRae, and Darren and Dennis Dowlut. The year 1999 saw SiB’s old band Iris handpicked by Mick Harvey as the support for Nick Cave and the bad seeds. The EP - titled Drifting Part One, its title inspired by a poem Siboulet wrote - features five songs of unusual emotional power and soulful sensuality. SiB takes your hand and takes it slow, beginning with the six-minute slink of In Love and book-ending the EP with the epic If I Left You Baby. A cast of fine musicians caresses SiB's every move, but at the heart - or soul - of the wondrous noises on Drifting Part One is Siboulet himself, wrangling his guitar like some watery angel, singing with the passion and conviction of someone who knows how to love and be loved - which you, too, will know once you've spent some time with this record. How you say, vous serez amoureuse. In other words, we think you'll like it. The EP launch will see SiB supported by: Tommy Spender (Offcuts and Custom Kings), DJ Manchild, Mohair Slim and Cooking on Three Burners .

Clan Analogue presents Institute of Sound
Electronic arts collective Clan Analogue launch Institute of Sound, a new series of monthly electronic music production workshops, on Monday the 25th of August, 7pm, at Horse Bazaar, 397 Little Lonsdale St in the city. Each month a new guest presenter will examine a particular aspect of electronic music performance and production, including live demonstrations and a Q&A session. This will be followed with a live performance along with an opportunity for members of the audience to take part in hands-on jamming. A projection system overseen by video artist Jonty Burton will ensure that all audience members get a close-up look at the work of each month’s presenter throughout the session. This month, on Monday August 25 at 7pm, electronic music producer and live performer Ehsan Gelsi (Bubble’n’Squeak/Smash Bang Records) will present Analogue Synthesizers in the Modern Studio. Although computers have taken over many aspects of modern music production, electronic musicians are still often drawn to analogue synthesizers for a warmer sound and more interactive means of sound creation. This workshop will examine the role of analogue synthesizers in the modern computer-based music environment, including both studio and live applications. As well as old-school analogue synths, the workshop will also consider the place of digital and virtual synthesizers based on the analogue model. Entry to the workshop is free.
